The leading museum of historic buildings in England, Weald and Downland has been designated by the Government for its outstanding collections of national importance.

Wander around rescued historic buildings that were destined to be ashes and dust. Buildings include a watermill and a school.

Join the 1.30pm daily tour which takes you behind the scenes to see carts, wagons and farming implements being used as they would have been by different trades.

The children can get up close with various animals such as Shire horses, Sussex oxen, South Down sheep and Tamworth pigs in the woods as well as geese and hens.

Learn about crafts such as carpentry and joinery to the traditional art of thatching and get to grips with conservation by learning about the skill of restoration.

Take part in the many events on offer including the Heavy Horse Spectacular and the Rare Breeds show.

This museum is a unique venue for your wedding day and we also cater for children’s birthday parties.

The nearest station is 7 miles south of the museum at Chichester or you can take the A286 if travelling by car.

Admission times are based on seasons. 5th Jan-20th Feb it is open Weds, Sat and Sun only. 21st Feb-23rd Dec is the main season and it is open daily. Over Christmas it is closed but reopens from 26th Dec-1st Jan for the Sussex Christmas event. (Always check with venue)
